Falling Fertility and Rising Anaemia?

A significant drawback of the National Family Health Survey,
including the third survey of 2005-06, is the lack of district-wise
data as the sample size does not permit generalisation at the
district level. While the fall in the total fertility rate in the five
states for which NFHS-3 results have been released is to be
welcomed, one cannot draw any general conclusion until the data
for the BIMARU states comes in. The data on anaemia prevalence
among women and children, however, is disturbing.
