Asian Trade Unionists to discuss Labour Market Reforms

Trade Unionists from the Asia Pacific region will gather in New Delhi to discuss Labour Market Reforms. They will be seeking responses to the Government's and Employers' push for market reforms for increased employment and productivity. The seminar "Labour Market Reforms: The Trade Union Response " will be hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) 18-20 July 2007 at Shangri-La Hotel, Ashoka Road, New Delhi.
The ILO launched "Asian Decent Work Decade" as part of the conclusions of its 14th Asian Regional Meeting in August 2006 with the objective of "realizing decent work in Asia". The proposed seminar in New Delhi is part of the planned events as a follow up to the conclusions of the Asian Regional Meeting. Main points of discussion at the seminar include: • issues relating to labour market reforms; • experience sharing to identify good practices in the Asian region to stimulate regional and sub-regional initiatives; • comission research to establish a knowledge base network to reinforce the sharing of knowledge and experiences in the region to advance the Decent Work Decade Trade union representatives from 16 countires of Asia - Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, PNG, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, New Zealand, Nepal and Sri Lanka will participate.
