Gandhi Tour

Music is a universal language and can even spark social change. That is the thought behind the Gandhi Tour. With the support of Dr. Arun Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, this touring music festival started in 2006 at the Earthdance Festival in California to spread Gandhi’s message of non-violence and multicultural understanding.
The participating musicians of the Gandhi Tour will organize a Stand Up event during their performance at the CMJ Music Festival in New York. “Music is the most important tool in peace education,” said founder Tobias Huber. The Swiss musician hopes that the musical event will grow out to become an influential peace movement, with well-known artists and speakers. Huber’s band 1001 Ways is truly multicultural (the members come from Switzerland, Philippines, Africa and Australia) and plays traditional music fused with electronic sounds. One of their songs is called “Gandhi” and is the first song that includes recordings of the influential leader’s own voice. Source: UNMC |
