Workshop addresses diversity in IT

A two-day workshop on “IT FOR ALL” organised by FTK-Center for Information Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia opened at its campus in New Delhi. The objective of the workshop is to promote the use of IT for the betterment of all sections of the society.
In addition to the coverage of the technical topics, the workshop aims at bringing to the fore the applications of IT in areas of development of education, empowerment of under-privileged, rural development, information security concerns, etc. By bringing people from diverse backgrounds on a unified platform, the workshop also aims at developing better understanding of technology and related issues amongst non-technical people and simultaneously to help the technical people realize the bottlenecks in adoption and implementation of Information Technology. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. N. Vijayaditya, Controller of Certification Authorities, Government of India. Dr. M.P. Narayanan, President, Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS) delivered the keynote address. Naimur Rehman, Director, OneWorld South Asia, Syed Shahid Mahdi, Former Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia and Mukundhan Manimandiran, Regional Manager, Sales, Cisco India also addressed the gathering. Prof Mushirul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia presided over the programme. Among the topics to be discussed during the next two days are: Knowledge preservation and dissemination, new technologies for teaching and learning, virtual classroom and knowledge content management, web 2.0 in education, educational podcasting, ICT in school education, etc. To help participants gain better understanding of the modern technologies an IT exhibition has also been arranged during the workshop. The IT companies like Cisco Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., HP India Sales Pvt. Ltd., Wipro Ltd. (Infotech Division), Apple Computers and SQL Star International Ltd. have put up their stalls. |
