Workshop on participatory development

True development is possible only when the process is truly democratic.
With this stated objective, Praxis India, is organising its 12th Annual Commune on Participatory Development from August 19 – 28, 2008 at Kerala, India. Set up in 1997 by ActionAid, Praxis works to empower communities by propagating the use of participatory practices in all forms of human development. This residential workshop acts as a forum for participants from across the world to come together for reflection and learning. It provides both, a theoretical understanding of participatory approaches/tools as well as the opportunity to apply them in the field. The ten-day programme includes general and specific module based theory, three days in various rural and urban field settings, as appropriate to the module content and finally a sharing, reflection and feedback session. Now in its twelfth year, this programme has attracted more than 1100 participants from 30 countries. These have included students, NGOs, community building organisations and government agencies.
